ABOUT THEATER ZUIDPOOL
ZUIDPOOL SINCE 2005
Since 2006, Zuidpool are Jorgen Cassier, Sofie Decleir and Koen van Kaam. (Jan Bijvoet was part of the team until 2010, he currently works freelance.) They got acquainted in the legendary Antwerp theatre school Studio Herman Teirlinck and during their years at Toneelhuis under the direction of Luk Perceval. A brief overview of Zuidpool’s past productions:
Siberië: a theatrical concert based on the songs, writings and the life of Vladimir Vissotsky.
Oorlog: an adaptation of the Lars Norèn play.
DUS: based on the eyewitness accounts of people who were involved in the Heizel Stadium drama.
Nachtlied: a treatment of the play by Jon Fosse.
Hooglied: based on a text from the Old Testament.
Cockfish: inspired by a documentary about Metallica.
kReon: a reinterpretation of the Thebes cycle in the tradition of Sophocles and Aeschylus.
OPUSXX: a solo by Sofie Decleir about the accomplishments and the horrors of the 20th century.
MACBETH: a concertante version of Shakespeare’s tragedy, performed in English.
Lucifer: an adaptation of the classic 17th century play by Vondel, for three actors and puppets.
Salomé Redux: a radical physical and musical interpretation of the story of Salome
Over the past years, Zuidpool has collaborated with actors, musicians, dancers and designers such as: Josse De Pauw, George Alexander Van Dam, Jan Decleir, Koen De Sutter, Tuur Marinus & Marisa Cabal (Busy Rocks), Kaat Hellings, Marianne Loots, Jonas Leemans, Reinhilde Decleir, Paul Wuyts, Sachli Gholamalizad, Diane Belmans, Stefaan Degand, Stefanie Claes, Barbara Claes, Femke Heijens, Tijs Delbeke, Mauro Pawlowski, Sjoerd Bruil, Ilse Vandenbussche, Mark Van Denesse amongst others.
