Carly Heathcote, Agnès Bingyan Wu en Mathilde Timmerman, drie studenten van de Derde Bachelor Theaterkostuum AP/KASKA, presenteren een avond vol installaties en performances in het kader van hun project 'The Dream Box'.

Drie individuele werelden ontmoeten elkaar in dezelfde ruimte. Ze verkennen de materialiteit en potentiële beweging die kostuumontwerp in zich draagt.


OVER DE MAKERS


Mathilde Timmerman (BE) is geboren in Brugge, en studeert in Juni 2019 af als Bachelor Kostuumontwerp AP/KASKA. Haar performance wordt een verwerking van materiaal dat ze al jaren meezeult: een gigantische bol wol gemaakt van een gevingerhaakte ketting waar ze al sinds haar 18de levensjaar al de restjes wol in verwerkt die op haar pad komen. Ze verwerkt in deze levensdraad haar levenservaringen en onuitgesproken gevoelens. Ze werkt op een erg intuïtieve manier en laat zich graag inspireren door toevallige ontmoetingen. En als een soort Sisyphus streeft Mathilde er naar boven op de berg te geraken, met haar gevingerhaakte bol wol. Om dit verhaal tot een oneindige cirkel te brengen vond ze dit jaar een theorie die haar structuur geeft doorheen haar chaos. In de toekomst wil ze die theorie verder uitwerken en toepassen in haar werk.



Carly Heathcote (VS) previously studied Performance Design and Practice at Central Saint Martins in London, and will finish her bachelors degree in Costume Design this spring form the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Antwerp. For this project, Heatcote collaborates with Mery Coopman, who was born in Vietnam, and grew up in Belgium. She studied in Antwerp at the Royal Ballet school, de Kunsthumaniora, and graduated at the Royal Conservatoire with a bachelors in contemporary dance.

Heathcote’s work is situated between costume, visual arts, and performance. Within these disciplines she searches a conversation through materiality put into practice, and sharing the consequence with, performative action. Currently her work focuses on the potential distortion involved in the perception of memory and desires, and how this is projected externally.

In the ongoing collaboration between Carly Heathcote and Mery Coopman, the pair explore the sensorialization of absence through audio-visual processes and the (present) body. In a dialogue between desired and embodied, preserved and artificial, the creators ask if there is a need to escape our reality of instantaneousness into one of reverie. The performance, we kid in sacred space, expands around the event of open-sea swimming as an enactment of sensorial memory, an image in transit between physical and flattened space.

 

Agnès Bingyan Wu (CN) is a Costume designer and soft-material designer, born in China (and moved to The Netherlands at age of 18), and graduating in June 2019 from theater costume design department in Royal Academy of Fine Art Antwerp, Belgium.

Focussing on Happiness as theme, she creates an immersive experience for audience to stimulate their happy sense. Her work is a safe place for queer, people who live here all with free mind and free spirit. They are searching for a fluidity of gender and body. 

She observes and explores the world with an intuitive interest for the aesthetics of shape, color, image and material.  Her concepts and designs often contain contradictory elements and a new playful approach, resulting in a little idiosyncrasy or surrealism edge.

With her work, Bingyan wants to create a world that is more romantic, more humanistic, to take a step forward from modernism. It’s her opinion that maybe modernism is done and we need a world that is more free-spirited and less technocratic; more respectful to the past and essential for the realization of what she calls “a fluid feast”.
